Can reviewers at Frontiers recommend to reject a manuscript?

Yes, if a reviewer has concerns about the research and feels it is not sound science, they can recommend to reject the manuscript.  If a reviewer discovers serious flaws in a manuscript, or disagrees with the publication, he or she can withdraw from the process, registering a personal recommendation to reject.

When receiving such recommendation, the Associate Editor may choose to either recommend the article for rejection or – if in disagreement with the reviewer’s assessment – to invite a new reviewer for an additional opinion. Learn more here
